Care and Cleaning Considerations for Your New Retainer

Posted .

Now that Dr. Pierson has given you a beautiful new smile, the time has come to have your braces removed. However, it’s important to keep in mind that adjusting your teeth with braces is not a permanent fix. Once your braces are removed, you are required to wear a retainer, nightly, for the rest of your life.

Your teeth are constantly moving, your new retainer will help retain their ideal alignment. If you aren’t diligent about wearing your retainer during the prescribed times your teeth will move.

You should always keep your retainer in its case, when you are not wearing it. We love the quote,” If it’s not in your FACE it’s in the CASE!” It’s better to always keep the case with you, rather than placing it inside a napkin or a plastic bag. To refresh your retainer, you can soak it in a mixture of one-half antiseptic mouthwash and one-half cold water.

If you lose your retainer or it breaks, call our office immediately so that we can get you fitted for a new one. The longer you wait the more your teeth can shift.

If you have questions about how to clean and maintain your new retainer please call our office at 210-695-1116 for advice or to schedule an appointment.
